A sum of rs.3000 is to be givenin form of 63 prizes. If the prize money is either rs.100 or rs. 25 . Find the number of prizes of each type?

let no.of rs.100 prizes be x, no.of rs.25 prizes be y

100x+25y=3000, x+y=63

multiply 1st eqn with 1 and second eqn with 100

then, 100x+25y=3000
          100x+100y=6300
on solving eqns, -75y=-3300
                             y=3300/75=44
                             x=63-44=19
therefore, 19 prizes of rs.100 and 44 prizes of rs.25 is to be given.
