A sum of rs 700 is to be used to give seven cash prizes to students of a school for their overall academic performance if each prize is rs 20 less than it's preceding prize ,find the value of each prizes

S=700  d = -20 n=7

by using formula

S=n/2 (2a +(n-1)d )

700 =7/2 ( 2a+( 6)-20)

1400= 7(2A -120)

1400= 14a - 840)

1400+840 =14a

2240=14a

a=2240/14 =160 

A2= 160-20=140 thus we find the preceding terms 

so the value of first prize is RS  160 ,second RS  140, third RS 120 ,fourth  RS 100, fifth  RS 80, sixth  RS  60 ,seventh rs 40
