Let the number of ₹ 5 notes be x.

So, number of ₹ 10 notes = (90-x)

Total amount of ₹ 5 notes= ₹ 5x

Total amount of ₹ 10 notes = ₹ 10(90-x)

Total amount =  ₹ 500

According to condition,

5x + 10(90-x) = 500

⇒ 5x + 900 - 10x = 500

⇒ -5x + 900 = 500

⇒ -5x = 500 - 900

⇒ -5x = -400

⇒ 5x = 400

⇒ x = 400/5

⇒ x = 80

So, number of ₹ 5 notes = x = 80

and number of ₹ 10 notes = (90-x) = (90-80) = 10

Hence, the number of ₹ 5 notes and ₹ 10 notes are 80 and 10 respectively.
