  • The Sum of two numbers is 140 .

  • Their difference is 20.

  • The smaller and the bigger number.

\sf{\huge{\underline{\green{Answer :-}}}}

Let the number be x & y

According to the question,

The Sum of two numbers is 140 .

x + y = 140 -----(1)

The difference between them is 20.

x - y = 20 -----(2)

Adding the equation 1 & 2 ,

x + y = 140

x - y = 20

_________

2x = 160

________

➝ x = 160/2

x = 80

Putting value of x in (1) equation,

x + y = 140

➝ 80 + y = 140

➝ y = 140 - 80

y = 60

Step-by-step explanation:

Let

the numbers be x and y

ATQ

\\ \qquad\quad\sf{:}\longrightarrow x+y=140\dots(1)

\\ \qquad\quad\sf{:}\longrightarrow x-y=20\dots(2)

  • By adding both equations we get

\\ \qquad\quad\sf{:}\longrightarrow 2x=160

\\ \qquad\quad\sf{:}\longrightarrow x=\dfrac{160}{2}=80

  • Substitute the value in eq(2)

\\ \qquad\quad\sf{:}\longrightarrow x-y=20

\\ \qquad\quad\sf{:}\longrightarrow 80-y=20

\\ \qquad\quad\sf{:}\longrightarrow y=80-20

\\ \qquad\quad\sf{:}\longrightarrow y=60

  • The bigger number is 80
  • The smaller number is 60
