Total distance= length of train + length of platform

I.e 80+120= 200 m but need in kmph so 0.2 km

Time = 20 second but need in hours so 20/(3600)= 1/(180)

Speed = distance / time = 0.2*180= 36 kmph

The length of train is 300 meter

Solution:

Given that,

Speed of train = 120 km / hr

120\ km/hr = 120 \times \frac{5}{18} = \frac{100}{3}\ m/s

Length of bridge = 100 meter

Time taken = 12 second

Find the length of the train

Let length of the train be "x"

speed = \frac{length\ of\ train + length\ of\ bridge}{time}\\

\frac{100}{3} = \frac{x + 100 }{12 }\\\\400 = x + 100\\\\x = 300

Thus length of train is 300 meter
