A surface is rubbed to make it smoother.What effect will this have on friction?Give reasons. Please answer.

The Friction will REDUCE.
Friction between two surfaces exists due to their surface irregularities.After rubbing , the corresponding surface irregularities will decrease thereby reducing the friction.
