According to the graph, the population of rhinos has increased gradually throughout the years.

  • In 1910 the population of rhinos was lower than 250, it increased up to 250 in almost 50 years and reached around 750.

  • Then the number of rhinos fluctuated a few in the coming years but again came to 750 in ten years in 1969.

  • The number decreased for two more years but then it went up quickly and touched 1500 in the year 1994 .

  • After 1995 the population of rhinos kept on increasing and went above 2000 rhinos.

  • But in 1996 it went to 2000. Again in 1998 the number of rhinos went up and passed 2250 rhinos.

  • Till 2005 the number of rhinos was 2250. There are no records after the year 2005.

Answer:

Rhinoceros unicornis is also known as the Indian Rhinoceros or the Asian One horned Rhinoceros. It is a large  mammal but its population is becoming less. A survey was conducted to find out of the population of this mammal between 1910 to 2005. It showed different results. The result showed only 125 rhinoceros in early 1900’s  i.e. 1910 which reached almost 740 in 1948. Then the number plummeted down and touched 600 in 1964. It kept  fluctuation and ranged between 600-750. The number again rose in 1966 but did not cross 750. By 1983 it has again reached 600. But after that there was a considerable increase in the number which touches 1750 in the  year 1986. The graph then shows a plateau till 1990 and the number again rose to 2100 by the year 1995. There  is hardly any increase in the next three years. The graph shows a sharp rise in the number of rhinoceros in 2000,  when it touched 2500. It remains stable for the next two years, but again the number again decreased by almost  one hundred in 2005, when it was an estimated 2400. The population has increased because of the conservation  as its hunting has also been prohibited.
