Given : a swimmer starts from a point an one end of the bank of river he swims in a straight line inclined to the bank of the river at 55° and reaches to opposite bank

he covers a total distance of 40 m

To Find : the width of the river

Solution:

Ignoring river flow

straight line inclined to the bank of the river at 55°

=> Sin 55°   = Width of River / Total Distance covered

=> 0.819 = Width of River / 40

=> Width of River = 32.76   m

width of the river  = 32.76   m
