Solution:
Given: The swimming pool,when filled by 2 pipes (A and B) takes 9 3/5 hours.
A alone fills the pool in 16 hours.
Let the volume of the swimming pool be v, and the time taken by pipe B alone to fill th tank be x,
then,the ability of pipe A to fill the tank in 1 hour equals V/16,
then,the ability of pipe B to fill the tank in 1 hour equals V/x
V/16+V/x =V/(9 3/5)
V(1/16+1/x)=V[1/(48/5)]
1/16 + 1/x = 5/48
x+16/16x = 5/48
(x+16)48 = (5)(16x)
48x+768 = 80x
768 = 80x-48x
32x=768
x= 24....2nd pipe takes 24 hours(1 full day) to fill the tank
