Let number of pumps required be x.

8:4::16/3:x

16/3 x 4= 8x

64/3= 8x

x= 64/3 x 1/8 = 8/3= 2 2/3 pumps

Answer:

3

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : A swimming pool can be filled in 8hrs by 4 equal pumps.

To Find: How many such pumps required if the pool is filled 16/3hrs?

Solution:

A swimming pool can be filled in 8hrs by pumps = 4

A swimming pool can be filled in 1 hr by pumps = \frac{4}{8}

A swimming pool can be filled in \frac{16}{3} hr by pumps:

= \frac{4}{8}\times\frac{16}{3}

 = \frac{8}{3}=2.66

Thus 3 pumps are required
