A swimming pool holds 40000 litres of water with a chlorine concentration of 0.01%. An overflow maintains the volume of water constant. Water with a chlorine concentration of 0.001% is now pumped in at a rate of 20L/min.
(a) What is the chlorine concentration in the pool after one hour?
(b) When will the concentration have dropped to 0.002%?

Step-by-step explanation:

ok.. initially there is 4 L of chlorine in the pool, and the amount of chlorine going in is 2(10^-4) L / min..

so...

Let amount of chlorine in water be C(t), then

dC/dt = rate in - rate out = 2(10^-4) - rate

dC/dt = 2(10^-4) - 20 * C/40000
