Given : A symmetrical 'T' shaped lamina is made from two rectangles 10cm X 5cm , so that total height is 15cm.

To Find :   The centroidal distance from bottom

Solution:

Centroid of each rectangle  would be center point of rectangle where diagonal bisect each other

Hence  Height of  centroid of 1 rectangle =   10/2 = 5 cm

Height of centroid of 2nd rectangle  = 10  + (5/2)  = 12.5 cm

(centroid rectangle is at height of 10 cm  and 5 cm is its height/width )

As T is symmetrical    Hence x coordinate would be same for  both rectangles

now Height are  5 cm and  12.5 cm from bottom

and both area identical

Hence The centroidal distance from bottom = ( 5 + 12.5)/2

= 17.5/2

= 8.75 cm
