The process for calculating the severity value for a message is as follows

The PRI = 26

In order to get the Severity value, we must first calculate the Facility.

In order to get the facility we divide the PRA Value by eight, so in this case the facility would be 26/8 which would place the facility at 3.25.

But we must consider only the whole number part and thus the facility is 3.

Now, in order to ascertain the severity we will multiply the facility with 8 and the resulting number shall be subtracted from the PRI Value.

Thus, Severity = 26 – (3*8) = 2.

Therefore the Severity in the above case is 2
