A table clock has it's minute hand 4.0cm long. find the average velocity of the tip of the minute hand (a) between 6:a.m to 6:30a.m and (b) between 6:00 a.m to 6:30 p.m

Hey !!!

Solution : At 6:00 a m the tip of the minute hans is at 12 mark and at 6:30 a.m or 6:00 p.m . it is 180° away . this , the straight line distance between the initial and final position of the tip is equal to the diameter of the clock .

Displacement= 2R = 2× 4.0cm = 8.0cm

The displacement is from the 12 marks to 6 mark on the clock panel . this is also the direction of the average velocity in both cases .

(a) The time taken from 6;00a.m to 6: 30 a.m is 30 minutes = 1800sec .

V average= displacement / time = 8.0/1800s = 4.4 × 10-³ cm/s

(b) the time from 6:am to 6: 30 pm is 12 hours and 30 minutes = 45000s . the average velocity is

V average= displacement /time = 8.0cm / 4500s = 1.8 × 10-⁴cm/s
