a tailor is able to finish a consignment of garment fabrication in 80 days less than second tailor.if first tailor is thrice as fast as second tailor,in how many days both of them can finish the consignment together

Let the days taken by the second tailor be x.

The days taken by the first tailor will be :

x + 80

Given that the rate of the first tailor is thrice the second tailor we can get x.

Note : The piece of work is the same.

Now to solve this we will do as follows.

(x + 80)/x = 3

x + 80 = 3x

3x - x = 80

2x = 80

x = 40

The first tailor takes 40 days to complete the work.

The second tailor thus takes :

80 + 40 = 120 days to complete the work.

When working together they will take :

1/120 + 1/40 = 1/30

It will therefore take them 30 days to complete the work when working together.
