Let A take x days then B will take x-6 days

gives that :

A's work + B's work =4 days

A's 1day's work +B's 1 day's work ,i.e., (1/x)+(1/x-6) = 1/4

(x-6+x)/x(x-6)= 1/4

(2x-6)4=x^2-6x

8x-24=x^2-6x

x^2-14x+24=0

x^2-12x-2x+24=0

x(x-12)-2(x-12)=0

(x-12)(x-2)=0

so, x = 12 or 2 but if x is 2 then x-6 ,i.e.,2-6 , is negative and no. of days cannot be negative so x will be 12

therefore, B will take (12-6),i.e., 6 days
