A tangent PQ at point P of a circle meets a line through the centre O at point Q, so that OQ = 12cm and PQ= 119 cm. Find the diameter of circle?

Answer:

Given,

Radius OP=5cm and OQ=12cm

PQ is the tangent to the circle. So, by Pythagoras theorem we get,

ZOP Q = 90°

PQ2 = OQ? OP?

=> PQ2 = 122 – 52

=> PQ? = 144 – 25

=> PQ? = 119

=> PQ = v119cm
