A tank can be filled by pipe A in 16 hours and by pipe B in 18 hours. Pipe C can
empty the tank in 24 hours. All the three pipes are opened simultaneously. After 10
hours, pipe C is closed. In how many more hours will the tank be full?

Answer:

Time taken to fill the remaining tank is 2 hours.

Step-by-step explanation:

We solve this by the LCM method.

A= 16hours

B= 18hours

C= -24 hours( - as it helps to empty the tank)

Finding LCM of the three= 144

So, work done in 1 hour by each[ efficiency]

A= 144/16 = 9

B= 144/18 = 8

C= 144/-24 = -6

In 1 hour, together work done= 11

So, they all work for 10 hours= 110

Therefore, work remaining = 34

Now, C is closed and only A and B work so efficiency = 17

So time taken to fill the remaining tank = 34/17 = 2 hours.
