A tank can be filled by two taps A and B in 8 hours and 6 hours respectively. The full tank can be emptied

by a third tap C in 4 hours. If all the taps are turned on at the same time, in how much time will the empty

tank be filled up completely?

Both the infilling Taps can fill the Tanks in 1 hour =(1/8+1/10) parts of the Tank

The 3rd Tap can empty in 1 hour =1/12 parts of the Tank

So volume of water remains in the Tank if all the 3 taps are on=1/8+1/10–1/12

=15/120+12/120–10/120=27/120–10/120=17/120 parts of the Tank

Time required to fill completely = 120/17=7.0588 Hours = 7 hrs 3.5 min
