A tank of Capacity 160 litres has one inlet A and one outlet B.Inlet A alone can fill the empty tank in 6 hours and outlet B alone can empty the full rank in 24 hrs .In how many hours will inlet A fill 16 litres water in the tank when ourlet B is also open

Given : A tank of Capacity 160 litres has one inlet A and one outlet B .

Inlet A alone can fill the empty tank in 6 hours

outlet B alone can empty the full tank in 24 hr  

To Find : In how many hours will inlet A fill 16 litres water in the tank when outlet B is also open

Solution:

Inlet A alone can fill the empty tank in 6 hours

=> Inlet A alone can fill in 6hrs = 160 litres

=>  Inlet A alone can fill in 1hrs = 160/6 litres

= 80/3  litres

outlet B alone can empty the full tank in 24 hr  

=> Inlet B alone can empty tank in 24hrs = 160 litres

=> Inlet B alone can empty tank in 1hrs = 160/24 litres

= 20/3   litres

When inlet A & inlet B working together

Then filled in 1 hr = 80/3 - 20/3

= 60/3

= 20 litre

20 litre  is filled  in   1hr

=> 1  litre  is filled  in 1/20 hr

=> 16  litre  is filled  in 16/20  hr

4/5 hrs  = 0.8 hrs  or 48 minutes

l inlet A fill 16 litres water in the tank when outlet B is also open  

in 4/5 hrs  = 0.8 hrs  or 48 minutes
