Answer:

72 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

A tap can fill the tank in 8 hours.

In 1 hour, 1/8 of the tank is filled.

On the day that the leak was discovered, it took 9 hours to fill the tank.

In 1 hour, 1/9 of the tank was filled.

The difference between the two rates is 1/8 - 1/9

This is the fraction of the tank's capacity that was getting lost every hour.

The tank was losing 1/8 - 1/9 of its water ever hour

Fraction of water lost every hour = 1/8 - 1/9

                                                       = 1/72

=> It will take 72 hours for the tank to get emptied due to the leak.
