A taxi charges Rs 20 for the first km and @Rs 12 per km for subsequent
distance covered. Taking the distance covered as x km and total fare
Rs y, write a linear equation depicting the relation in x and y.
Draw the graph between x and y.

From your graph find the taxi charges for covering 16 km.

given

taxi charge for 1st kilometres = ₹20

taxi charge for rest subsequent distance = ₹12

total distance covered = x km

total fare = ₹y

to \: find

1) write linear equation depicting the relation in x and y.

2) draw the graph.

3) fare for 16 km.

soution

1)

y= 20 + 12(x -1)

y= 20 + 12x - 12

y= 12x - 8

2)

solving equation (when x = 1)

y = 12x - 8

y = 12(1)-8

y = 4

(therefore x = 1 ; y =4)

( when y = 1)

y = 12x -8

1 = 12x -8

1+8 = 12x

9 = 12x

12x = 9

x = 9/12

x = 3/4

(therefore x= 3/4 y= 1)

3)

y = 12x- 8

y= 12(16) -8

y = 192 - 8

y= ₹184

hence proved ✅
