Petrol filled on Monday = 40 liters

Petrol filled on next day = 50liters

Total petrol filled = 90liters

Now, Cost of 1 liter petrol = Rs. 44

Cost of 90 liters petrol = 44 x90

= 44 x (100 – 10)

= 44 x 100 – 44 x10

= 4400 – 440

= Rs. 3960

Therefore, he spent Rs. 3960 on petrol.

What to do?

First we have to find the amount of petrol bought in these two days. Then, we have simply multiply it with the cost/litre in order to calculate the total money spent in it.

Amount of Petrol bought:

20 litres in first day.

35 litres in second day.

Total amount of Petrol bought = 20 + 35 l = 55 l

Cost of petrol:

(Per litre = ₹72)

⇒ Total cost = Amount of petrol × Cost/litre

⇒ Total cost = 55l × ₹72/l

⇒ Total cost = ₹3960

Hence,

Total cost of petrol for two days: ₹3960
