A taxi driver wants to go from Mumbai to Pune at an
average speed of 60 km/hr. But due to traffic jam, he could
cover 1/3 of the distance at 40 km/hr. How fast must he
drive on the rest of the highway in order to reach Pune in
time?

Answer:

Explanation:

IF the driver rode at 40 km/h then the total time taken, t, would be,

T=s/60

But due to traffic jam, he covered 1/3rd of the distance with a speed of 40 km/h. Time taken to complete 1/3rd of the distance is,

t₁=s/120

Let the rest of the journey be completed with a speed of v km/h in t₂ hours,

t₂=2s/3v

Now since the time taken to complete the journey is same,

t₁ + t₂=T

s/120 + 2s/3v =s/60

Taking s common out and cancelling it,

1/120 + 2/3v = 1/60

3v + 240/360v = 1/60

3v + 240/6v = 1

3v + 240 = 6v

3v = 240

v = 80 km/h

HOPE IT HELPS!!!
