A teacher can consider preferably group projects for learning, although individual project can be considered to.
Explanation:
- For online courses, group projects can give an invaluable advantage. Through an online course, students have the ability to learn how to organize a collaborative project within a distributed working environment — a capability that is constantly required in current work culture.
- A group project not only offers students an understanding of the collaborative projects in a future workplace environment, but also helps develop project management skills and introduces students to diverse viewpoint.
- The implementation of individual & group projects for the online teaching and learning approach can be implemented without much difficulties. The software applications are numerous, and could be used for doing a joint project by groups as well as being in contact with others.
- Since only group or individual projects include a visual representation of the task the teacher may create standards within the guidelines that allow other students to evaluate the individual and group projects and to report their assessment to the instructor and/or show their conclusions on line during a shared interaction.
- A more practical group project concept can allow students to write a shared/group paper, but each student is responsible fora different section and covers a separate part of the subject. Learners could co-ordinate topics and exchange observations with one another but would remain responsible for their written section. Similarly, a complex or controversial subject can be given to students and each one has to discuss from different view point
- A project should be fairly complex for students to play various roles. One could carry out research work and interview sources, another could make up a written part, while a third organises a presentation to share with the class, the findings
- Unlike a "usual classroom experience", in which students see each other, several classmates rarely meet in person online. In fact, in multiple time zones or even in different nations, they are potentially miles apart. Virtual class rooms can be exciting for building large distances communities, however the gap can be a complicating factor for students with very different timelines work together to finish the project.
- However, asynchronous tools for communication (e.g. e-mail or collective fora) provide the participants with freedom to respond when most necessary, sync (live chat , video conferencing) helps groups stay on one page. It will enable students not to focus solely on conversation threads rather to arrange a few meetings to collaborate on key points of their project.
