A teacher placed equal no. of raisins in equal amount of water in two beakers A and B. Beaker A was placed at 20 degree celsius while Beaker B was placed at 40 degree celsius. After one hour in which beaker, the percentage of water absorbed by the raisin will be more? Give reasons for your answer.

Taking into account that the raisins have the same concentration of water at the beginning and that the amount of water in both beakers at the beginning are equal then the raisins in the beaker at 40ºC will have absorbed more water.
The water would be moving through the partially permeable membrane of the raisins through osmosis and this process is affected by temperature.
Simply, the higher the temperature, the faster the movement of water molecules across the membrane.
Since the movement will be faster in the beaker at 40ºC, the raisins will be able to absorb more water there!
