Hello friend!
It is true that a teacher should be respected irrespective of age and gender. This is what the sixty-two year old grandmother did. She touched the feet of her twelve-year old teacher(her granddaughter) not only as a mark of respect but also to seek her blessings. Her teacher had given her kannada lessons and mentored her thouroughly so that she could accomplish the target she had set for herself. After the training was over, and grandmother emerged as a successful learner, then her joy knew no bounds. It was a signature-moment for her when she learnt to read. She showed her gratitude to the only teacher she had ever had in her whole lifetime, a tecaher, whom she would always look up to till her last breath..Like an ideal student, the grandmother was doing her duty towards her young teacher by touching her feet. At that point of time, she was a student and not a grandmother of a twelve year old girl. Grandmother was a fiem believer of the holy scriptures, She correctly pointed out the fact that a teacher should always be respected regardless of her age and gender. Even the gods claim that the place of a teacher is high above them. So, one should always respect a teacher. We can't claim to have achieved success without the constant support and guidance of your teachers, who are the real pillars standing behind our successes. We enter this world to gain knowledge and a teacher spends her entire life in imparting knowledge to her students. In the ancient times the teacher were mainly the sadhus and the students followed the gurukul-system in those times. The guru would always sit on the top while the students were seated at the bottom. this is because it is generally believed that knowledge flows from the top to the bottom. In the Ramayana we can see Lakshman touching the feet of Ravana( mind you not the head!) So, this has been the tradition since ancient times and it is we, the youth of today, who need to realise the importance of such practices. teachers are our friends, philosophers and guides. So, wherever we tread in our life, we must not forget to thank our teachers who have taught us. Remember, how old we may grow, but for a teacher we remain as students, and students shall we remain forever..."A GURU IS NOT A CRUTCH, HE IS A BRIDGE"
