The correct answer to the following question -

Given: Number of pencils = X

Discount on each pencil = 10 sen

After the discount, the teacher can buy 4 more pencils.

To find:  i) Calculate the number of pencils that the teacher can buy after the discount.

ii )Calculate the original price of each pencil.

Solution:

Let us suppose the number of pencils that the teacher can buy after the discount be 'X'

Let the pencil in a box and the price of one original pencil is 'Y'.

and, 1 RM = 100 sen

= 10 sen = 0.1 RM

So, x×y = 12

(x + 4)(y - 0.1) = 12

On solving the both equation, we get x = 20, y = 0.6

(a) The number of pencils that the teacher can buy after the discount will be 20.

(b) Since y = 0.6

Therefore, the original price of each pencil will be 0.6.
