This has been done to check for the Rh or Rhesus factor in the blood. People who have it in their blood are known as Rh+ and others Rh-. To detect this, some amount of antiserum is added to a blood sample and the results observed. If these antiserum particles cause aggregations or clumping, this means that the person is Rh+ and the reaction has taken place due to complex formation with the interaction of antigen and antibody.

To check the Rhesus factor (symbolised by: Rh)
Rhesus factor is an antigen occurring on the red blood cells of many humans (around 85 per cent) and some other primates. It is particularly important because of cause of haemolytic disease of the newborn and of incompatibility in blood transfusions.
