A tent is in the form of a right circular cylinder, surmounted by a cone. The diameter of the cylinder is 24 m. The height of the cylindrical portion is 11 m , while the vertex of the cone is 16 m above the ground. Find the area of canvas required for the tent.

Area of canvas required= C.S.A of cone + C.S.A of cylinder

Height of cone = 16m-11m = 5m

Height of cylinder=11m

Diameter of cone = Diameter of cylinder= 24m

Radius of cone/cylinder=12m

Slant height of cone = h2+r2 under root

= 13m

Area required= pi*r*l + 2*pi*r*h

  = 22/7 x 12m(13m + 2 x 11m )

  = 22/7 x 12 (13 + 22m )

  = 22/7 x 12(35m)

  = 22x 12 x 5m2

  = 22 x 60 m2

=1320 m2

  =866.64m2
