A tent is in the shape of cylinder surmounted by a conical top. If the height and the radius of the cylindrical part are 3.5 m and 2 m respectively and the slant height of the top is 3.5 m, find the area of the canvas used for making the tent. Also find the cost of canvas of the tent at the rate of Rs.1000 per m².

Dear student,

Answer: Total canvas used = 65.97 m²

Total cost = 65971 Rs

Solution:

Curved surface area of cylindrical part of the tent:

CSA of cylinder = 2 π r h

CSA of cylinder = 2 × π × 2 × 3.5 m² ∴ r = 2 m and h = 3.5 m given

CSA of cylinder = 43.98 m²

Curved surface area of cone = π × r × l

r = radius and l = slant height

radius of cone = radius of cylinder

l = 3.5 m

CSA of cone = π × 2 × 3.5

CSA of cone = 21.99 m²

Total area of tent = CSA of cone + CSA of cylinder

Total canvas used = 43.98 + 21.99 m²

Total canvas used = 65.97 m²

Total cost = 65.97 × 1000 Rs

= 65971 Rs

Hope it helps you.
