Explanation:

This is the normal state of being human. Almost all of us make bad decisions and sometimes end up dealing with them for the the rest of our lives. And as we age, we collect these kind of like multiple millstones around our necks.

Sometimes the repercussions from our mistakes are small or happenstance simply erases them over time. With other mistakes, there is no escape for us. For the mistakes that haunt my life like this, I do two things. First I pray. I know this isn’t a religious section of the forum, but this is what I do. My faith tells me that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. This helps change my view of the situation and I then remember that the evil from my mistake can indeed have a positive purpose. The second thing I do is study the situation more closely. How bad is it really? Are the repercussions really that bad or is my view skewed by shame and disappointment? This allows me to look more clearly at the problem and possibly find a reasonable solution or “mitigation”. For many things in life, there are no perfect solutions. However, most things can be mitigated, meaning that while the problem may never be erased, the severity of the problem can be reduced.

The important thing to remember is that as long as we are breathing, there is still hope. History is full of examples of happy and successful people overcoming horrible problems of their own making. And the same can be true for each one of us. Things may never be perfect in this life, but there is always a positive path forward if we just seek it.

mark as brilliant please!
