A testing laboratory often recommends liming soil above pH 7.0, for improved nutrients availability, is there any merit in this?

Actually the soil pH has a large influence in getting the required nutrients for plants.
Adding additional lime to increase the pH level to 7 may help provide increased availability of molybdenum but liming of soil to pH 7 doesn't increase crop production.
