A text book has 1200 pages .it is broken up into two parts .the second part of the book has 74 pages less than the first part .how many pages are in each part of the book

Let the first part contain x pages
therefore second part contain (x-74) pages
Given: Total no of pages =1200
x+ (x-74)=1200
2x-74=1200
2x=1200+74=1274
x=1274/2=637

First part contain 637 pages
and second part contain (x-74) pages =(637-74) pages = 563 pages
