The atomic number of sodium is 11.It has 11 electrons.it loses one electron to from sodium ion. Then the number of electron in sodium ion is 11 - 1=10

The atomic number of chlorine is 17.The outermost orbit of chlorine atoms 7 electrons us present. It accepts one electron now is 18 and the number of protons is still 17
