(a)
The figure given alongside shows the velocity-time graph for them.
a body along a straight road. Study the graph and answer the follow
questions:
(i) Did the body start from rest?
(ii) What does the graph state
about the nature of motion of
the body?
(iii) What is the acceleration of
the body?
velocity (m/s) -
(iv) Find the displacement
covered by the body at the
end of 4 s.

Answer:

1. body did not started from rest..

2.body moving with constant acceleration.

3.let the equation of graph be

y = mx + c ....1

y = velocity at certain time

x = time

c = constant

m = slope of the graph

from the graph at t = 0 , v = 2 m/s

substituting in eqn 1 we get

2 = m × 0 + c

we get

c = 2

and at t = 4 sec, v = 5m/s

substituting in eqn 1

5 = m× 4 + 2

m = 3/4

from above we get

v =  \frac{3}{4} t + 2

differentiating with respect to time we get..

 \frac{dv}{dt}  =  \frac{3}{4}  \frac{dt}{dt} + 0

a = 3/4 m/s^2...

in 4s distance travelled by body is given by second equation of motion.

s = ut +  \frac{1}{2} a {t}^{2}

s = distance , t = time , a = acceleration of the body, u = initial velocity or velocity of particle at time = 0 sec

s  = 2 \times 4  \:  +   \frac{3}{4}  \times \frac{1}{2}  \times 4 \times 4

s = 8 + 6

s = 14
