  • In the first exercise, you are required to spot the infinitives (if any) in the given sentences.
  • An infinitive is basically an un-conjugated verb. A verb in its base form can be formed as to+verb. It is very simple to spot them, all you need is to find the 'to'. Once you find the 'to' you will easily find the infinitive.
  • In sentence 2, there is no infinitive as the words have already been conjugated in the present tense.

  • In the second exercise, you are required to find the main verb.
  • Usually, in a sentence, there will be more than one verb placed after each other. To spot the main verb you usually look at the first verb.
  • In sentence 3, the main verb is 'rains' as it is in the main clause of the sentence.
  • In sentence 5, the main verb is 'to swim'. The verb is conjugated in the past perfect tense and therefore 'has' is part of the conjugation and not the main verb.
