a) 5

b)28

Given:

(a) The sum of four times a number and 5 gives a number five times of it.

(b) One-fourth of a number is 2 more than 5.

To find:

Find the numbers

Solution:

First we will solve a part and then b

a) Let the number be x,

First we have to find 4 times the number which is 4x

Now, the sum of 4x and 5 is equal to 5x

So, we have to frame equation and solve it.

4x + 5 = 5x

Now, we will take 4x to right side

5 = 5x - 4x

x = 5

b) Again we will let the number as x,

One- fourth of a number is 1/4 * x = x/4

This number is 2 more than 5

So,

x/4 = 2 + 5

x/4 = 7

x = 28

Hence, the a) is 5 and b) is 28.
