Social media is a good thing for all.of us.
Social media is an important part of our daily lives today. Though it started out as a way of keeping in touch with friends and family, It has over time evolved into something more than just a casual means of communication.
Social media brings with it the ease of communication, access to realtime communication, ability to reach out to individuals, companies or even governments, a new system of commercial marketing and a way of keeping in touch with friends and family despite geographical distances.
On the down side, social media has given birth to a host of problems like a new area of competition, increased mental health issues like depression and anxiety, greater risk of cybercrime, loss of interest in face to face communication, aloofness from family and physical health issues like weaker eyesight and strained neck and back muscles.
However, when both the sides are weighed, it becomes evident that social media in itself is neither good not bad. That is defined by how the user uses or misuses it.
I feel that if it is used carefully, without overdoing it, social media can be of immense help in keeping one updated about family and world affairs, new rules, laws and developments and announcements. It is one of the easiest means of spreading important news, especially in the wake of a disaster or pandemic.
If used sensibly, without getting addicted to it, social media can help save time and effort and also enable one to help others.
