Concept Introduction

Resistance is a force, like friction, that acts in the body's opposite direction from the direction of motion and tends to stop or impede the body's motion. a measure of how much a material obstructs the voltage-induced flow of electricity

Given

A thick wire of resistance 25ohm is drawn into a thin wire such that its length becomes 4 times.

To Find

We have to find the new resistance of the wire.

Solution

According to the problem,

The relation between area of cross section, length and resistance is given by,

R=ρ*l/A

New length is 4l.

∴ R'= ρ4l/A

⇒R'=4*ρL/A=4R.

Hence, new resistance is 4*25=100 ohm.
