A thief is runnig away on straight road in a jeep moving with a constant speed of 9m/s. A policeman chases him in a motorcycle at 10m/s. If the instantaneous separation btw them is 100m then find the time that will take the polce to catch the thief

100 Seconds
Given:
Speed of the jeep of the thief = 9 m/s^-1
Speed of the policeman's motorcycle = 10 m/s^-1
Instantaneous separation between the policeman and the thief
= 100 meters.
To Find:
The Time the police will take to catch the thief.
Calculating:
Calculating The Speed Of Approach :
= 10 - 9 = 1 m/s^-1
Formula used for calculating the time taken to meet:
= Initial separation / speed of approach
Substituting the values into this formula we get:
= 100 m / 1 m sec^-1
= 100 secs
Therefore the time the police will take to catch the thief is 100 seconds.
