Question :-

A Thief is running on a Train with 12 km/h. The Police Car is moving with 80 km/h. If the speed of the Train is  60 km/h, what's the speed of the Thief with respect to the Police Car?

Solution :-

Given,

Speed of Thief = 12 km/h

Speed of Train = 60 km/h

Since the Thief is running inside a moving Train, the Resultant Speed of the Thief = 60 km/h + 12 km/h = 72 km/h

Speed of Police Car = 80 km/h

Speed of the Thief with Respect to the Police Car = Speed of the Thief + Speed of Police Car

= 72 km/h - 80 km/h = (-8) km/h

For considering Speed, which is a Scalar Quantity, the Negative Sign is not needed...

So, ∴ The Speed of the Thief with Respect to the Police Car = 8 km/h

ANSWER :

WITH RESPECT TO THE POLICE CAR, THE THIEF WILL BE RUNNING WITH HIS OWN SPEED, ALONG WITH THE TRAIN'S SPEED.

THEREFORE, THE SPEED OF THE THIEF WITH RESPECT TO THE POLICE CAR WILL BE THIEF'S SPEED + TRAIN'S SPEED.

=> (12 + 60) KMPH

=> 72 KMPH
