Step-by-step explanation:

let

distance covered by thief=d

distance covered by police =d+50

time is same for both

d/8=(d+50)/10

10d=8d+400

2d=400

d=200m

Answer:

200mtrs is the distance that thief travels before getting caught

Step-by-step explanation:

given distance between them is D=50mtrs

speeds of both are 10 and 8 kmph

so while chasing speed should be taken ::: as diff of speeds

So S=s1-s2=10-8=2kmph

convert it into mtr/sec=2*5/18=5/9 mtr/sec

SO we know formula

speed=dist/time

5/9=50/time

t=90 seconds

SO

for thief distance travelled

we know his speed is 8kmph=8*5/18=20/9mtrs/sec

speed=dist/time

20/9=dist/90 sec

dist=200 mtrs

that is distance thief travels before getting caught
