Given : A thief runs at a speed of  32 mtr/ sec and a policeman runs at a speed of 48 mtr/sec but after 6 sec .

To Find : after how many metes will the policeman catch the thief

Solution:

Distance = Speed x time

Let say Policeman  catches the thief after t sec

Speed of policeman  = 48 m/s

Distance covered by policemen  = 48t  m

Speed of Thief  = 32 m/s

Time for thief = t + 6 sec

Distance covered by policemen  = 32(t + 6)  m

48t = 32(t + 6)

=> 3t  = 2(t + 6)

=> 3t  = 2t + 12

=> t  = 12

Distance covered by policemen  = 48t

= 48 x 12

= 576 m

After running 576 m policeman catch the thief

Another Way : in 6 Sec  Thief covered Distance = 32 x 6 = 192 m

Relative Speed of Policeman = 48 - 32 = 16 m/s

Time Taken by policeman = 192/16  = 12  sec

Distance covered by policemen  = 48 * 12 =  576 m
