The reason for this is as follows:
- The main reason for happening this is that this modified retrovirus has been inserted near the proto-oncogene promoter of leukemia.
- The leukemia-like condition of clonal lymphocyte proliferation was shown to be related to retrovirus vector integration near the LMO2 (LIM domain only 2) proto-oncogene promoter leading to activation and expression of LMO2. The LMO2 protein plays a major role in hematopoietic development.
