A timber beam is reinforced with a steel plate at bottom as shown in Fig. 2. The beam is
subjected to a maximum bending moment of 30 kNm. Determine the maximum stress in
timber and steel. Assume that the beam is sagging. Take elastic modulus of steel as 200 GPa
and elastic modulus of wood as 10 GPa.
