Let their present ages be a and b respectively
Difference between A age and B age = a - b
So, when A was as old as B,the age of B then will be given by
b - (a - b) = a/2 - 4

2b - a = a/2 - 4
2b -3a/2 = -4

3a/2 - 2b = 4
3a - 4b = 8
Also, we have sum of their present ages
a + b = 61
Solving these 2 equations we get
a = 61 - b
3(61 - b) -4b = 8
183 - 3b -4b = 8
-7b = -175
b = 25
So, a = 36
Therefore, B's present age = 25 yrs
