Answer:

111.1

Explanation:

Given that when Tortoise covers 1m, Hare covers 10 meters. That is, for every second the distance between the Hare and Tortoise gets reduced by 9 meters. To cover 100 meters it takes 100 / 9 = 11.11 seconds for Hare. So the distance covered by Hare = 11.11 × 10 = 111.1

Answer:

The hare has to travel 111.11 meters before catching the tortoise .

Given;

Head start of tortoise = 100m

Speed of tortoise = 10 x speed of hare

To Find:

Find the distance traveled by Hare to catch up the tortoise.

Explanation:

Let the distance travelled by hare to catch the tortoise  = x m

Let the time taken by hare to catch tortoise = t sec

So the distance travelled by tortoise in t seconds = x - 100 m

Time will be equal for tortoise and hare

Distance travelled by tortoise / speed of tortoise =Distance travelled by hare / speed of hare

x -100/speed of tortoise = x/speed of hare

x- 100/speed of tortoise = x / 10xspeed of tortoise

x-100= x/10

10x -1000 = x

9x = 1000

x = 1000/9

x = 111.11 metres

Hence the hare has to travel 111.11 meters before catching the tortoise .
