A total of 40 apples are distributed among A, B, C, D, E AND F. The no. of apples with A, B, C, D, E AND F are in decreasing order. The no. of apples with B is twice that with D. The no. of apples with C is thrice that with E. The difference in the no. of apples with A and B is same as that with E and F. 4. What is the no. of apples with E?

Given : A total of 40 apples are distributed among A, B, C, D, E AND F.   The no. of apples with B is twice that with D. The no. of apples with C is thrice that with E. The difference in the no. of apples with A and B is same as that with E and F

To find : no. of apples with E

Solution:

A  + B  + C  + D  + E  + F  = 40

B = 2D

C = 3E       ( C can be  6  or 9   as if C = 12  then B , A minimum 13 & 14  and E =3 and sum will be more than 40  .  if C = 3 then E = 1  but E > F hence can not be 1 )

A  - B  =  E  - F

so We will take Case 1

C  =  6

=> E = 2

F can be only 1

D can be  maximum   = 5

=> B Can be maximum = 10

& A can be  Maximum  = 11

Maximum  Sum  = 11 +10 + 6 + 5  + 2 + 1  = 35  < 40

Hence C can not be 6

so we lft with only Case 2

C  = 9

E =  3   ( we got  our solution here)

lets verify if there exist a possible condition or not

F  can be   1  or  2

D minimum can be 5

B can be  10

A can be 11 or  12

if D > 5 then sum will exceed  40

Two  possible solution

A = 11 ,  B = 10 C  = 9   D= 5   E  = 3    F  =2

A = 12 , B = 10  C = 9  D = 5  E  = 3   F = 1

in both cases E  = 3

no. of apples with E = 3
