A total of 80,000 is to be distributed among 200 persons as prizes. A prize is either of 500 or 100. Find the number of each prize.​

Answer:

let the number of people that get the amount of 500 be x.

let the number of people that get the amount of 100 be y.

According to the question,

x + y = 200   ------------ (i)

500x + 100y = 80000    ------------ (ii)

Solving these eqn with elimination method,

multiplying eqn (i) with -500

=> -500x - 500y = -100000      ----------  (iii)

adding eqn (ii) and (iii)

=>500x + 100y = 80000

  -500x - 500y = -100000

=> -400y = -20000

=>  y = 50

putting the value of y in eqn (i)

=> x + 50 = 200

=> x = 150

So the number of people with 500 Rupees is 150 and the number of people with rupees 100 is 50.
